About me

REG. AVIVA, SIMPLY HEALTH, BUPA, AXA-PPP

Arriving for your first counselling session can leave you feeling nervous - try not to be. We work together on the issues you bring to counselling so that it is an equal relationship. Although I cannot be your friend, we form a relationship over time that involves trust, respect and confidentiality. Counselling and psychotherapy are about personal growth and understanding of how you've got to be where you are in life, and how you feel about relationships. Change is often difficult because it can involve loss. Sometimes the loss needs to be grieved for, at other times, self-confidence, self-belief and a 'can do' attitude are important to develop.

Develop an 'and if' approach to life, one where there is always a solution to a problem - you just have to find it. That's where counselling and psychotherapy can help you find options to life challenges.

I am an Integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor and supervisor with twenty four years experience, working with BACP_35117_1.pngindividuals, students in training, and couples. I offer a warm and comfortable space for clients and work with counselling with current life problems and longer term psychotherapy.

My broad base of experience  working as a counsellor in Surgeries and Medical Centres, with Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), private health insurers such as AXA-PPP, BUPA, AVIVA and other private health insurers, and in private practice.

My core Integrative approach includes:

Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic, Brief Therapy Person-Centred and CBT/Mindfulness.

Students and individuals are welcome to meet with me for a FREE half-hour appointment to see if you feel comfortable with me and for me to hear why you want counselling or psychotherapy.  If we decide to work together an appointment is made at a mutually convenient time. Please note: this offer excludes couples counselling.

Anxiety and depression affect relationships with loved ones, friends and work colleagues. Very often, anxiety begins in childhood which becomes pronounced in adult life. Counselling and psychotherapy can help you understand the root cause of your anxieties which often accompany depression, a word that describes anger and sadness. Counselling can help you contact anger and sadness so that you can let it go, freeing yourself for the future and improve the quality of your relationships.

Specific types of anxiety include General Anxiety Disorder, Body Dysmorphia (a distorted body image), Panic Attacks and Social AnxietyEating Disorders are usually linked to all types of anxieties. Counselling and psychotherapy can help build self-esteem, self-confidence, self-image, self-identity and self belief so that anxieties can be let go and depression lifted, encouraging confidence to build and expand your social life and relationships.

Fees: Individuals: £50.00per hour (£45.00 for those on Benefits, with evidence); Couples: £60.00per hour.

My counselling skills are reflected  with supervision:

SUPERVISION: INTEGRATIVE, models as above.  Sessions:  £65.00 per hour and a half.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
