Jennifer Cox, Child&Adolescent Psychotherapist & Counsellor MA, MBACP
The Maris Practise
Amyand Park Road
As an Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist & Counsellor, I build therapeutic relationships with the children, young people and adults I support to help them with the things that are troubling them. A key component of our work together is the safe and confidential space I offer in which they can explore through words, play and the use of arts media.
The use of the arts, play, storytelling, puppetry and Sand play in sessions gives children a natural and safe way of communicating and processing their feelings, for which they often do not have words for. The sensory nature of arts and play mediums also helps children to develop their ability to self-regulate. Many adult clients find the opportunity to use Arts mediums and metaphor within sessions facilitates them to connect more deeply with what is troubling them through engaging their right brain and creativity.
The aim of sessions is to help children and young people to process and organise their feelings so that they are able to manage them more effectively – and so that they cause less pain to the self and others.
Integrative Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy & Counselling can be helpful for a variety of issues that can affect our well being.
My integrative framework combines different approaches such as Psychodynamic, Relational, Humanistic, Solution focused, CBT, Neuroscience and Attachment based. The methods I use vary depending on the needs of my client and their presenting issues.
My therapy room contains a variety of creative media such as art materials, puppets, sand play and small world materials to facilitate exploration and expression of feelings and thoughts.
