About me

Counselling and psychotherapy provides a safe and confidential space which enables you to explore past and present issues or areas of your life which you would like to change. This could be in relation to immediate difficulties you are experiencing, such as a bereavement, relationship or family issues, stress or employment problems, symptoms of anxiety or depression or other mental health difficulties or may relate to longer standing issues, including those arising from childhood.

As a Therapeutic Counsellor and Integrative Psychotherapist I am able to draw on a number of different therapeutic approaches which then enables me to work with your individual needs and style. I provide a professional and confidential service to listen, support and work with you in understanding how past experiences or current difficulties may be affecting your life and provide you with effective treatment within a warm relationship in which you can heal and grow - I am passionate about helping clients work through their difficulties and improve how they are feeling. I have extensive experience of working with clients in an NHS and private setting including working with students at both Newcastle and Northumbria University.

You can telephone or email me and I'll contact you as soon as possible to answer any questions you might have and/or if appropriate to arrange a convenient first session to discuss what you want from therapy and how we can work together to achieve that. I practise from 2 locations, in Wallsend and Jesmond/Sandyford in centrally located, comfortable surroundings, the latter within easy walking distance of the city centre and both universities and popular student areas, with easy access to car parking and public transport. I aim to be as flexible as possible in arranging appointments, taking into account your work, study, family and other commitments.

At your first session, which will last about an hour, I will discuss what has brought you to therapy, what you want to gain from it and and how we can work together to help you achieve the outcomes you want. I will also give you information about the service which I provide and answer any questions which you may have about the process - understanding that you may feel nervous or worried at the start of counselling I will always endeavour to make taking these first steps as easy as possible for you.

I have also been specifically trained in delivering therapy by telephone and online via video link and am able to take on new clients who need to be able to access therapy in these ways at the present time.

I will respond to your initial email within 24 hours of receipt and generally very much sooner - **please check your Spam/Junk folders as often emails in response will be filtered into these folders on your email account**

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a background in legal practice specialising largely in matrimonial and family law, having been qualified as a solicitor for over 25 years. Working with legal clients experiencing relationship or family difficulties prompted me to train in psychotherapy and counselling and I have been working as a therapist within an NHS setting and in private practice for over 8 years. During this time I have worked therapeutically with clients on both a short and long term basis and have experience in helping clients with a wide range of issues. I have also been employed to provide mental health awareness training to a number of large organisations and am approved and employed by a number of national and international insurance companies and healthcare providers to deliver counselling and psychotherapy services to their clients. I am qualified as a counsellor and psychotherapist to the highest level and standard, I have a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Integrative Psychotherapy as well as a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Psychotherapy, all passed with a Distinction. I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and accredited by the Professional Standards Register.
