About me

My name is Jeanette Finlayson. I am a qualified Counsellor. Using a variety of approaches, I can support you to explore and make sense of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. In a safe, confidential and non-judgemental way, I will help you develop your self-awareness so you can make the changes you wish to make for a healthier, more fulfilling life.

People come to counselling for a variety of reasons. They may be experiencing difficulties in everyday life or feeling a bit stuck in their relationships. I offer a safe and confidential space to listen and help with the following:

Depression, Anxiety, Relationship problems, Stress, Work related issues, Grief, Eating Disorders, Self-harm, and Low self-esteem.

I use a variety of recognised, integrated approaches in our work together, based on what your needs and wishes are:

I am registered with COSCA as a Counsellor. (Diploma Using Transactional Analysis). My core modality is in Transactional Analysis. The central philosophy of Transactional Analysis is something I hold dearly and fully believe in:

All people are OK.

No matter who you are, you are a worthwhile, valuable person in your own right. You are special. We are all special.

We can all think.

We all have the capacity to think and work out what we want and how to get there.

We can change.

All people have the capacity to understand how their past experiences influence their present behaviours and have the power to make new decisions for themselves.

I am fascinated by the human experience, and how we can make sense of 'what life is all about'. I believe that we all want the best in our relationships with ourselves and others. It's essential for our overall well-being. It's one of our most basic psychological needs. Sometimes our past experiences can get in the way of this. We can sometimes feel small, helpless and overwhelmed.

Talking therapy within a non-judgemental relationship is a way of unpicking our patterns and habits to reveal a healthier way forward. During my own personal therapy, I have experienced the powerful way this can work.

Mindfulness practice has become part of my life over the past 15 years. Research tells us how beneficial it can be for our mental health and well-being.

In my practice, I use all of my life experiences to bring to my clients work, to help make sense of issues and to empower them to live a more fulfilled, happy life. I believe that the most basic and powerful way to connect with another person is to listen. I will give you my full attention.

If you are at a stage where you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, you may be ready to embark on a journey of self-exploration with me. I will help you with kindness, empathy and compassion.
