About me

Are you struggling with life at the moment?  Perhaps not knowing why you feel the way you do, only a sense that something isn't sitting well.  I can offer you a confidential, private and safe space to explore your feelings and will support you in overcoming issues which feel challenging, and perhaps hopeless.  I am very aware that taking this first step can feel daunting so please be assured that we will work at your pace and that I will remain alongside you.

Over the years I have worked a great deal with loss, anxiety, panic disorder and intrusive thoughts.  Thoughts can trigger powerful emotions which can leave us feeling powerless and isolated, and perhaps no longer trusting in ourselves and our abilities.

A Person-Centred approach underpins my practice, but I also work with CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Gestalt Therapy and Mindfulness, therefore, the counselling that we embark upon will be tailored to your needs and which we can review together.

Please feel free to contact me either by telephone, email or text.  If I cannot take your call then please leave a message and I will endeavour to respond to you within 24 hours.  I am happy to have an informal chat about your counselling needs and I also offer a half an hour initial session/assessment free of charge.  I offer this confidential counselling service from a quiet and private counselling room with free off road parking.

I am a Registered and Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I am fully committed to working within their ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.

I also work as a Clinical Supervisor being qualified to CPCAB Diploma Level 5.

In the past I counselled for 10 years on a voluntary basis for an agency specialising in Bereavement and Loss and have written and run workshops on bereavement and suicide risk.  Additionally, I worked as a Lecturer teaching Person-Centred Counselling to students studying up to and including CPCAB Diploma Level 4.

I feel passionately about counselling and how it can make a real difference to peoples’ lives. I continue to study and attend workshops in order to broaden my knowledge and understanding.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Loss and Change

Many people think of the grieving process as something experienced only after a loved one has died.  However, we also grieve for a multitude of reasons such as the end of a relationship, loss of good health, loss of employment, loss of a child leaving home, to name but a few...  Whenever something meaningful is taken away from us we grieve.  This grieving process can lead us to feel highly anxious, confused, where perhaps we have lost touch with our real self.  Loss of self can feel very scary and isolating.

I have worked extensively in the area of bereavement and loss and I can help you to make sense of what you are experiencing and where new insights and possibilities can emerge in a world that is ever changing.
