About me

I have run a private counselling practice in Belfast and Holywood since 1998. I work with individuals and  groups and I have a special interest in trauma, anxiety, identity,  self esteem, depression, relationships and women's relationship to food and body image. I also offer clinical supervision to psychotherapists and counsellors. I have specialist training in trauma and body centred psychotherapy, as well as CBT.

I believe that it is important for the client to feel secure and able to talk about whatever issues are troubling them. I aim to provide a supportive and responsive environment in which we can make sense of your particular difficulties. I believe that understanding the impact of past experience on the present helps to increase self esteem and allows you to make important positive changes in your life. The process helps you to free yourself from limiting self beliefs so you are free to move on in life and have more fulfilling relationships.

I work in the University area of Belfast and in Holywood town. My practice room is quiet, comfortable and convenient for easily accessible.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 15 years experience as counsellor, counselling supervisor and trainer, and have worked in a variety of settings over many years. I completed my initial counselling training in the USA (1992), and have a particular focus on relationships, couples, abuse, women's relation to food and body image, depression, stress and self esteem issues.

I have specific trainings in trauma and body centred psychotherapy. My study in Jungian psychotherapy developed my interest in our personal and spiritual development. I very much enjoy working as a counsellor and counselling supervisor. I bring a wealth of experience to the therapeutic relationship and want to work with you for your development at your pace in a safe environment. As well as working as a psychotherapist and supervisor in private practice.

Further information

Please feel free to call me for a conversation about your needs before we met.

My standard rate is £50 per hour. I also offer a limited number of sessions at a reduced rate of £35 for people on means-tested benefits or low incomes.

I offer an initial session of 45  minutes to allow a potential client to meet me and decide if it feels like a good fit for us to work together. It’s also an opportunity for me to assess if I think I am the right counsellor for you – sometimes I might feel it’s better to refer you on to a colleague if I think I don’t have the right skill set or attributes to work with you. This session is free and there is no obligation to continue. If after meeting, either of us decides not to go ahead then there is no charge. You don’t have to decide on the spot – it can be a good idea to take some time to go away and think about it. If we both decide to work together, I will ask you to pay for the initial session, at your second session.

I work on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday daytime and evenings.

If I don’t have any spaces available (either at standard or reduced rate), I have a waiting list which clients can join if they wish, once they have attended an initial session, and wait for a session to become available.
