About me
I specialise in workplace wellness and supporting people working in high-stakes/high-pressure environments such as healthcare who may be struggling with work-life balance, experiencing stress, anxiety or depression, or have been exposed to traumatic events because of their working environments.
Therapy is a space where it is ok not to be ok, where you will have the opportunity to talk through your concerns and prioritise your mental health and wellbeing. Together we will explore strategies and practical tools to help you stay well and manage yourself better in the future.
Whether it is for a short or long term therapy can be a valuable support as you navigate your way through a difficult period and get back to focusing on what matters most to you in your life.
I work mainly online via Zoom and MS Teams but occasionally offer face-to-face appointments from my home office.
To arrange an appointment with me email: jean@jeanburke.co.uk or call 07968 722491. To find out more about me go to my website www.jeanburke.co.uk

My experience includes supporting frontline staff teams such as Critical Care, Theatres and Emergency Departments within major NHS Trusts during COVID-19, leading the Patient and Family Support team at Oakhaven Hospice, working for the mental health charity Mind and running a telephone-based counselling service for an EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) provider.
I have also taught on the FdA programme at Iron Mill College and spent several years supporting those affected by cancer at The Mulberry Centre, West Middlesex Hospital and Maggie’s Centre in Charing Cross Hospital, Hammersmith.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Testimonials from clients:
"After my first session with Jean, I felt like a weight had lifted from my shoulders...she has enabled me to reflect and see patterns in my approach to work. I had no boundaries. She has helped me manage ‘live’ work situations and develop strategies to apply to future scenarios."
"Jean came to me highly recommended. I felt a little apprehensive, however during the courtesy introductory session Jean’s warm, professional and quietly probing approach put me at ease and made me realise we would work well together."
"Jean created a space for reflection but gently challenged where appropriate. There were useful suggestions for work to do between sessions to build on strategies and maximise benefit. "
"I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for your support over the last 6-12 months. As you know it’s been a turbulent period for me and I appreciate your guidance during this difficult time."
"All in all things are going well- thank you very much for getting my head into a place that has allowed me to make the right decisions."
