About me

How can counselling help?

Making the unconscious conscious - Often certain personal experiences of past or current events can affect us on such a deep, unconscious level that we fail, initially, to recognise the change to our sense of self. The resulting feelings of low self esteem, lack of self worth or little motivation can pervade our everyday lives, creating anxiety, depression or self medicating behaviour such addictions to alcohol, gambling, over eating etc.

I offer counselling that is accepting of your experience, a place to be heard and understood - This positive, supportive environment helps to increase your confidence, to trust your feelings and to therefore be confident in your own ability to change and lead a happier life. This shared exploration of your life experience can increase your self awareness and so begin the process of self healing and the letting go of detrimental behaviours.

Making the the decision to begin counselling is daunting - I am therefore happy to have an informal and open discussion with you by phone or email to help see if you want to move on to working together.
This provides you with an opportunity to see if you will be happy to work with me and to explore what you want from counselling sessions.

Counselling is a collaborative process - so it is vital that you feel comfortable and able to express yourself without feeling guarded or worried about being judged. A strong therapeutic relationship is key to a successful outcome, where both parties are open and honest, and if after our initial discussion you feel you would like to continue, we can then agree the number of sessions in respect of your needs.

I work from an integrative approach in working collaboratively with what works best for you. I offer short and long term counselling from premises in South Petherton and Crewkerne, at a cost of £50.00 for an 1 hour face to face session, or telephone/zoom sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
