About me

I am an experienced, UKCP registered integrative psychotherapist and supervisor.

I am a depth psychotherapist, which means that I work toward the the process of individuation (Carl Jung). In this orientation, symptoms such as anxiety and depression are seen as pointers to where we might have become detached from our innate self. This is quite a complex concept, but the headline is that sometimes in life, we get off track.

Through the therapy process, we would be exploring what track you've ended up on, and as we unpack that, we start to see the track the innate self might need you to be on. Along the way, we look at where you might have become stuck or where you've had traumatic adaption, so we can unpick those obstacles.

The work is largely in the talking mode, though working with creativity, dreams, visualisation and embodied emotion is also employed. I would also be using the relationship between you and I to make sense of what has happened in the past. Sessions are weekly, unless it becomes clear that a deeper piece of work is possible and needed, in which case we might meet two or three times per week.

Although your presenting issue is the starting point of our work together, this method seeks to free the true self from familial and societal conditioning and developmental trauma. This in turn resolves difficult psychological symptoms, but also creates a more free flowing psyche, which is more resilient, emotionally attuned to self and other. Along the way, a more clear understanding of life purpose is often gained, and the energy to achieve that purpose is released.

I work with clients where repeating patterns are holding them back and they are ready to seek a holistic change. I often work with clients who have already had some form of therapy, but for whatever reason are now seeking a deeper process. This way of working does require some preparedness to look deeply at oneself.

Training, qualifications & experience

I began working with clients in 2009 and I am a UKCP accredited, full clinical psychotherapist. I adhere to the UKCP code of practice. I am a trained supervisor and recognised training supervisor at CCPE, a London psychotherapy training centre.

I completed six years of academic, clinical and self development work which culminated in a two year research masters. Since accreditation, I have completed further trainings in trauma, supervision, ecopsychology, group analysis and Jungian psychology. Further details of my professional background is available on my website.

I have worked in psychotherapeutic contexts in the NHS, in community organisations and in private practice.

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

The way I work relates to underlying processes within the psyche, so I am able to work with a broad range of presenting issues. That said, I understand there can be comfort from knowing your therapist is aware of the territory of your situation.

To that end, I am listing some of the specific areas I have experience with:

  • Reprocessing childhood experience and relationships, including divorce, abuse/neglect, narcissistic parenting, abandonment, migration, boarding school, early losses, etc
  • Sexuality and gender, as well as sexual difficulties and the interaction between relationships and sex, sex and spirituality
  • Grief and loss, including bereavement but also grief for our "unlived" life
  • Anxiety (including OCD), depression, self harm and suicidality. I have experience working with dysregulated and disorganised attachment structures and complex presentations such as borderline and fragmented states
  • Intergenerational and collective trauma and ancestral issues. I have experience working with racial trauma and people who grew up in colonial contexts
  • I work toward resolving the underlying causes of addictive processes and behaviours - e.g. eating, smoking, drinking, apps & internet, work, sex and drugs
