Who can I help?
I have a specialist interest in helping people to recover and move forward from trauma, anxiety and depression. Whether you have experienced a one-off traumatic event, or endured years of pain and suffering it is never too late to seek help for your trauma, no matter how long ago it happened.
How counselling can help
If you are living with PTSD, anxiety or depression then you will know how life-limiting the daily symptoms can be. Everyday life contains triggers, and these can become so frequent, unpredictable and unbearable that a life of avoidance becomes inevitable. Poor mental health can limit our ability to function as integrated human beings. Without appropriate help and support, you may feel lonely and isolated, it may feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. But there is light, and I will help you find it.
During trauma-focused therapy I will first and foremost help you to re-establish a sense of safety and learn how to regulate your emotions around triggers. I will help you to learn to think differently about triggers and to soothe yourself when you are triggered. You will learn to talk them down, not talk them up.
Ultimately, you will be empowered with the understanding, tools and resources you need to live a life that is free of avoidance and maladaptive coping mechanisms. A life where you start to reconnect with healthy ways of living and can realise your future potential. A life where you thrive, not just survive.
If you're worried about taking the first step....
Making contact with a counsellor can feel like a daunting task. It may be something you've been considering for a long time, and if you have never had counselling before you may not know what to expect. Please don't hesitate to contact me for a free, no obligation telephone consultation. I am happy to answer any questions you have, as well as covering the basics of the services I offer. I offer online video and telephone counselling. Home visits are available by arrangement in the Leeds area.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a counsellor with a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma. I have since completed additional training to support my specialist interest in working with people who have experienced single or multiple trauma. I am a practitioner of REWIND therapy to help with the processing of traumatic memory and reduction of PTSD symptoms. I also offer longer term trauma focused therapy for complex trauma. I have extensive experience of working with survivors of childhood abuse, alongside being a provider of counselling for frontline and emergency personnel throughout the UK.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

What is talking therapy?
Talking therapy is a widely used and highly effective form of counselling which can boost resilience, stabilise emotions and help you to discover, or re-establish a sense of identity. This relaxed client-led approach promotes the belief that we have an innate human instinct to grow and self-actualise, even in the most challenging circumstances.
What can I expect in sessions?
Talking therapy enables clients to explore inner thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement or bias, whilst gaining insight and perspective from a competent ally. Where appropriate I may challenge some of the things you say, to encourage a deeper reflection and understanding of self. Talking therapy is appropriate for supporting the recovery of a broad range of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and OCD. In addition, talking therapy can help you to realise coping mechanisms and strategies for dealing with a wide range of stressful or highly emotive life events, such as bereavement, divorce, redundancy and family conflict.
