Janet Sherrard, BA(Hons), M Psych Psych, MACP (Reg)
I am an accredited and registered Child, Adolescent & Young Adult Psychotherapist with over 35 years experience of working in Children's to Young Adult Services in the public, voluntary and private sectors.
I offer therapy and psychotherapy with children, adolescents, young adults, parents and families, who are experiencing emotional, relationship or family problems, or mental health difficulties. These may include: stress, anxiety, abuse, sadness or depression. Alternatively or in addition, the young person may have developmental difficulties or disabilities such as ADHD.
Short-term contact may be appropriate for recent onset problems, whereas longer-term therapy may be necessary for longstanding or more severe difficulties.
An initial consultation usually requires a longer session, up to 90 minutes, to explore current concerns and difficulties as well as some background details. It also enables the family and therapist to decide together whether therapy could be useful or whether another form of assistance would be more effective. Follow-up sessions are 50 minutes.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a professional background in Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and have also worked across all age ranges (from pre-schoolers to young adults) in the voluntary and private sectors over many years.
Following a 5 year, post-graduate training in Child, Adolescent and Young Adult Psychotherapy in the mid/late 1990s, I qualified as a Child, Adolescent & Young Adult Psychotherapist and annually re-register with the professional organisation, the ACP (www.childpsychotherapy.org.uk). I adhere to the Code of Ethics of the ACP, which is approved by the Professional Standards Authority.
I also hold a current Disclosure Scotland.
