About me
Counselling may be the right step for you if you are at a point in your life where you are motivated to seek change.
You may be experiencing a time of feeling worried and low, or that certain aspects of your life as not as you would like them to be. This may be because of specific circumstances such as a relationship breakdown or bereavement, or it could be a general sense of things not being quite right, without being sure of the reason why.
Counselling offers the space to explore what is happening and offers you the chance to see and understand your emotional and behavioural patterns more clearly. This, in turn, can lead to new and more rewarding ways of responding to life.
My approach is primarily Person-Centred which non-directive and works on the premise that change takes place when a person is given the opportunity to explore their issues with a therapist who is empathic, non-judgemental, honest and genuine. However, everyone is unique and I take a view that no single approach can treat every client in all situations. I work with every client individually and draw on aspects of other therapeutic models such as Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Brief Solution Focused therapy and Compassionate Mind therapy where appropriate.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an experienced BACP accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist and qualified in 2007 with a Post Graduate Diploma (PG Dip) from Brighton University. I work on an individual basis with adults and young adults. I offer both long and short-term counselling in a private setting.
Since qualifying, I have worked in a variety of settings, including a hospice, GP surgery, local counselling provider and a local University.
As an accredited member of BACP, I abide by their ethical framework and regularly undertake further training and development.
