About me

Hi there, I'm Jan.  I am a mum of two teenagers and have lived in Liverpool for 20 years.  I have 10 years experience as a counsellor.   It isn't always easy to talk to family and friends when we are finding things difficult, but it does help to talk. I can offer you a warm, non-judgemental space to help you with everyday life struggles, stress, anxiety, separaration, divorce, bereavement, family problems, or things that have happened in the past. Perhaps you are struggling with trauma or maybe you are feeling angry, low, anxious, or numb without being able to pinpoint exactly why.

I can help you to gain understanding, bringing you a sense of relief.  A weight lifted off your shoulders. This process can bring new insights and sometimes a desire to change things in your life that are no longer working. I can help you move forward - on your terms, at your pace.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am employed as the manager of a team of counsellors working therapeutically with children, young people, adults and families.  In this role, I work regularly with the police and social care.  I also have a private practice called Innerspace Therapy.

I am a Clinical Supervisor for other counsellors and accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  Accreditation is a higher level BACP membership, which demands  a greater standard of skill and expertise. I am qualified and experienced in:

Person-centred Counselling

Counselling for Trauma (Children and Young People)

Trauma-focused CBT (Children and Young People)

REWIND Technique (for trauma)

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical supervision

Teaching qualification - Secondary Education

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Please email/text me in the first instance, so that we can set up an initial session to discuss what you would like to get out of counselling. It is crucial to find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with, therefore, I offer this first session at a reduced rate of £25. If you are happy to continue, we will set up a second session.

Clinical hypnotherapy can help with most issues, such as anxiety, panic attacks, and self confidence.  I can offer hypnotherapy at my usual rate of £45 if we agree that you would find this helpful as part of your sessions.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday

I currently have some limited availability on Fridays.
