Jane Torrance Adv Dip Couns; M(BACP)
Welcome. I am a BACP Accredited and Registered Counsellor with 15 years experience in counselling adults, couples and young people in a variety of settings.
My counselling approach is Integrative, which is a way of combining two or three counselling theories in order to make sure the counselling meets your individual needs.
How we deal with challenges in life depends on many factors and I believe that working from an Integrative perspective ensures I am working in the best way possible to support you.
When experiencing difficulties in life it can sometimes be helpful to talk to someone outside of your family or friendship groups. It might be something that happened in the past which continues to cause you difficulties, or something in the present.
As a counsellor I am neutral, non-judgemental and will listen to you and how the situation feels from your perspective.
I offer you the time and space in a calm, confidential and respectful manner. I work by supporting you to explore your situation, help you to begin understanding things more clearly and, if you choose, to make any decisions in a considered way.
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling together with a Couples Counselling qualification gained from training I undertook with Relate.
Abiding by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions, I have Clinical Supervision on a monthly basis and regularly update my practice by undertaking professional development activities throughout each year.
I would be happy to answer any further questions you may have without obligation, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or telephone.
Training, qualifications & experience
I gained an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2004.
In 2006 I gained a Graduate Certificate in Couple Counselling delivered in collaboration between the University of East London and Relate.
I became an Accredited Member of BACP in 2008.
In 2011 I gained a Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
For 12 years until 2017 I worked as a counsellor at a local Further Education college, counselling students from 16 years coming straight from school, through to adults going back into education later in life. Alongside this work I also ran a private practice, which is now my main focus.
For several years I was involved with teaching adults on counselling skills courses, delivered counselling skills projects in the community with Nottinghamshire Police, Derbyshire County Council for new childminders and in Young People's community ventures.
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
