I am a person centred/humanistic counsellor.
I believe that building a relationship is central, as from that comes the safety, trust and mutual understanding needed to enable personal exploration and to unlock the potential for emotional release and change.
Before meeting a client I have no preconceived ideas about what may be wanted or needed in terms of numbers of sessions or the depth of work, and feel that this discussion forms an integral part of the work.
I work from home, in clients' homes or by phone, and feel that this provides a more therapeutic environment than a clinical office based setting.
However, I maintain strong boundaries regarding timing of sessions and contact outside of sessions as I believe that this enables a sense of emotional safety and containment which is essential.
