About me
Counselling gives you a safe and supportive space to talk about what it is like to be you. It is a chance to explore your thoughts, feelings and worries without any pressure.
We often carry our worries around with us without talking to anyone and no one really knows what we are living with. If we do reach out to talk, opening up to family and friends is sometimes tricky. They want the best for us but what will they think, will they give unwanted advice, will they be worried, will it cause them pain? I provide you with the confidential space to talk about your problems without any judgement or expectation. We explore the challenges you have and find ways to help you cope and encourage positive change. Ultimately you can feel happier and I would like to help you to do that.
Counselling is for everyone and I have worked with people of all ages with a wide range of issues. Younger adults come to me with difficulties relating to family breakdown, worries about what is happening in the world, further education, living away from home and the pressures and negative side of social media.
My experience has taught me that older adults find it particularly hard to seek help. Growing older has its challenges such as loneliness, physical and mental health issues, loss and family estrangement. By having counselling you can ensure you are heard and therefore support healthy aging.
I offer both short term and long term counselling and currently work online and by telephone. At first you may feel anxious - counselling can be daunting so approaching it by thinking "I am just going to see how it feels" can be more manageable. Opening up does feel scary at times and I understand it can take a lot of courage. You may find yourself committing longer term and this gives you time for more troubling issues. Either way, making time for you - to talk about you - is I believe something everyone should have the opportunity to do.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been a counsellor for many years and am experienced in working with many areas of life’s challenges. Clients look for help with a range of issues including: relationship breakdown, anxiety, worries about the world, depression, loss and bereavement, low self esteem, workplace bullying, loneliness and life stage changes.
I currently work with people over the age of 18. I have completed extensive training and have been awarded a Foundation certificate and a Diploma in Psychodynamic counselling from the Counselling Foundation. I hold a certificate of proficiency from the BACP - British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I adhere to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I have experience in counselling older adults, adults, young adults, adolescents and children. As well as my private practice I have worked in an agency setting for the Counselling Foundation and have worked and volunteered with Childline and the NSPCC. I have a psychology qualification and I continue to develop my knowledge with training and professional development. My work is clinically supervised and I am fully insured.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
