About me

As a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I will work with you to think about what is troubling you with the aim of understanding your situation, thereby enabling you to move to a happier life. I believe that by looking at past events we can make sense of what is happening in the here and now. How we are brought up, our childhood relationships with parents/caregivers, how we have dealt with losses all goes towards making the person we are today. Sometimes we keep going in a pattern of relating to people based on past experiences and feelings which is not helpful to us now and stands in the way of moving forward.

If you decide to contact me we will have a short conversation either by email or on the phone about your current circumstances and issues and, if you are agreeable, make an appointment to meet for an introductory session. This session, which can take place in person or on a video platform,  will allow us to think about what's going on and whether we both consider that we can work together. If we decide that we want to proceed with a course of therapy then you will be offered what is usually a minimum of a weekly 50-minute session which will take place at the same location, on the same day and at the same time each week. Evening and weekend appointments are available. The duration of the treatment will vary according to what is needed and can be short or long term.

I am based at a fully accessible location in Uxbridge. My consulting room is a five minute walk from Uxbridge Tube Station.  Sessions can also take place remotely.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am fully qualified, having a MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck College, University of London, and am also a Member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have considerable experience in the NHS as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, treating patients with depression, anxiety and personality disorders, among other conditions. I also have widespread experience with private patients, treating mainly anxiety in all areas of life.

In addition, I have worked for Brent, Wandsworth & Westminster Mind in a number of roles working alongside people with all kinds of mental health issues.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
