About me

Hi, my name is Jan. What’s on your mind? Whatever your problem, my approach is to listen to your story, help you to understand yourself better and explore how to make positive changes in your life. I offer time for you to talk through what is troubling you in a confidential environment.

Sometimes life seems stressful, dissatisfying or lonely. All kinds of situations can lead to us getting stuck with some difficult feelings. I provide a safe, calm space for you to explore how you have reached where you are now and explore the changes you are hoping to make. Understanding how life experiences have formed who we are gives us insight into how we have become stressed, stuck or dissatisfied. This insight also helps us to understand what we need to change to feel better.

I offer short term or long term counselling, you decide what you need.

I have worked with many different clients over the last few years dealing with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, relationship issues, bereavement, abuse, trauma and personality conditions.

I am an integrative counsellor. This means that I use a blend of the techniques I have been trained in. These include person centred, psychodynamic, attachment, gestalt, CBT, mindfulness, dealing with abuse and trauma through somatic experiencing. I am a Human Toolbox practitioner trained by Lindy Wheeler. I do some work for the NHS using NICE approved Person Centred Experiential methods.

I graduated from Middlesex University in 2015 with Matrix Training and I am a fully accredited UKCP counsellor and I am a registered member of BACP.

Email me to set up an initial session. At the first session we will talk about what you want to get out of counselling. If you haven't tried zoom video calls before I am happy to set up a half hour free session to see if this method will suit you. If you are happy to continue we will set up a second session, and I will arrange to see you weekly/fortnightly.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
