About me

Hello my name is Jan, thank you for taking the time to read my profile. You have taken the first step towards finding the support you need at this time in your life. I work in a private, calm, relaxed and confidential space in the centre of Darlington. I believe the therapeutic relationship is central to any work we do together, I will not judge you and will offer you the respect you deserve while we explore the reasons you are seeking therapy at this time. Having someone to talk to in confidence can in itself be a healing experience.

I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and a registered member of the UKCP. This means I am able to work using many different theories and methods, depending on which will be most beneficial to you at this time. Transactional Analysis is central to my work.

I offer long term psychotherapy focussing on deeper issues, dependent upon your needs. For some of us the trauma of a difficult childhood throws a shadow over our adult lives, psychotherapy looks at the connection between our past and present.

I offer short term counselling focussing on ‘here and now’ issues we may also focus on how changing ‘negative thinking’, can change our way of being and the way we relate to others, we unconsciously repeat the same patterns of behaviour with the same outcomes as a result. This may be the time in your life that you want to understand and change this.

I work across a wide variety of issues to include trauma, loss, anxiety, depression, work related stress, transitioning from one stage of life to another for example retirement, a new job, children leaving home, divorce, my background has been working in mental health services and I have many years’ experience in this field prior to qualifying as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

I also offer Supervision to other counsellors and psychotherapists I am UKCP Registered.

If you think I might be the right therapist for you I would love to meet you so that we can discuss possibly working together either short or long term dependent on your individual needs.
