About me

Hi, I'm Jan and I am an experienced Person-Centred Counsellor working in the Perth area. I understand how difficult and potentially scary it can be when trying to find a therapist for the first time and I seek to offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment for you to explore and talk about any concerns you would like to bring to the counselling room.

Sometimes we can get caught up in situations where we can't think clearly and talking about it with someone impartial can help make sense of feelings and behaviours.  We can sometimes become overwhelmed by our social environment and personal relationships, and the impact that external influence of others can have on our self-worth and self-esteem.  I believe as a Person-Centred Counsellor that everyone is an expert in their own life and has the capacity and drive to work towards personal growth given the right conditions.  If you would like find out more about how I work or to arrange an appointment, please email me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a Counsellor in 2015 and have experience working in both Addictions and Generic Counselling settings. I have also recently completed my Foundation Degree/Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling with the Open University. I have experience working as a Counsellor at Drugs, Alcohol and Psychotherapies Limited in Leven and St Andrews, Insight Counselling in Dundee and Stop and Talk Fife in St Andrews.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am currently practicing as a Person-Centred Counsellor. I have worked with a range of issues which include addiction, anxiety, trauma, flashbacks, depression, relationship issues, suicidal thoughts and anger.

My practice is fully insured and I commit to regular clinical supervision on a monthly basis, in line with BACP guidelines.

My qualifications are:

  • CPCAB Level 2 Counselling Skills.
  • CPCAB Level 3 Counselling Studies.
  • CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
  • Open University Level 5 Foundation Degree/Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
