My name is Jamie Kelly and I am an HCPC Registered Dramatherapist.
I am passionate about recovery and am guided by the belief that we all have within ourselves the ability to change, grow and flourish to our full potential when in a safe, non-judgemental and creative environment.
I offer a safe, confidential and nurturing space that encourages self-expression for healing and growth.
My approach to therapy is person-centred, creative and holistic:
- Your safety is paramount in therapy. I will provide a safe and confidential space where you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
- Building trust is key to help you feel safe in your sessions. I will listen carefully to you, show you empathy and unconditional positive regard so that you feel able to share freely in your own way and at your own pace.
- Developing your inner strength and inner resilience is essential in therapy. I will support you to develop all aspects of yourself (spiritual, social, intellectual, emotional, physical and creative) so that you may build on your inner strength and resources.
- There are many ways to work in therapy and many ways to work with you! I will see you as a whole person and not judge you based on your condition, problem or situation. I will support you to find your own voice and answers, follow your lead in the sessions (and not tell you what to think or what to do).
My creative approach to therapy is an expressive form of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Creative therapy can be gentle yet powerful because you can express yourself verbally, visually, experientially and symbolically. We can work on a deeper level by getting to the heart of the issue.
My belief is that working creatively can help you connect with all aspects of yourself and heal the child from within. In the creative process, unspoken issues can be voiced safely, and their resolutions can be found within the art form.
Words alone may not be enough to describe the way we feel about ourselves and how we see the world. The therapy I offer is unique because it works holistically with the mind and body.
If speaking directly about an issue feels too unclear or distressing, I can help you find other ways to express and process your emotions. For example, I often use art cards, objects, drawing, story, role play, movement and writing with my clients.
Working creatively can provide another layer of safety, protection and distancing when it may feel too difficult to speak directly about the issues and emotions that cause you the most pain, hurt or confusion.
