About me

At some time in our lives most of us will experience difficult, distressing or stressful situations. Often at these times we may find it hard to cope and experience thoughts and feelings which can be hard to understand. It is at these times talking to a sensitive and empathic listener can make a big difference.

Talking can be the first step in facilitating positive changes but I appreciate that taking that first tentative step can feel daunting, but it doesn't have to be. I have supported many clients who have been in that situation, struggling with their feelings and trying to cope alone.

I firmly believe that a vital ingredient for a successful therapeutic outcome is the relationship between the client and the counsellor. My aim is to develop that relationship and to support and understand you as we explore together the concerns you have, the strengths you may have forgotten and the changes you may wish to make.

As we are all unique I do not believe that one theoretical approach will suit every person. Therefore, as a priority, I aim to ensure that our work together meets your individual needs and in order to achieve this I may integrate a variety of approaches as appropriate for you as an individual client.

My practice is based at my home which is located in a quiet residential area of New Barn, Longfield. My counselling room is private and safe with a calm atmosphere which allows space for thought and reflection. Free parking is readily available.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy [MBACP] and fully adhere to and work within their Ethical Guidelines for Good Practice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have extensive experience as an Integrative Counsellor working with men, women and young adults who have presented with a wide range of concerns including abuse, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, loss and relationship issues.

I have my own private practice but have previously undertaken work in specialist agencies including a Drug and Alcohol Addiction centre and a Hospice in Kent. I also have experience of working with members of the Emergency Services.

My qualifications include:-

  • Diploma Integrative Counselling
  • Level 3 Certificate Counselling Skills and Theory
  • Level 2 Certificate Counselling Skills
  • Level1 Counselling Studies

I employ a combination of therapeutic approaches, life experiences and training in order to help my clients towards a better understanding of themselves and how to cope more effectively with issues and concerns and to ultimately facilitate positive changes and restore balance in their lives.

I regularly attend workshops which facilitate my continued professional development and which enhance my knowledge and practical skills.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
