About me

Hi. I'm Jackie and I offer both short and long term counselling and psychotherapy in Stour Row near Shaftesbury. If you are feeling fed up, stressed, anxious or low, counselling can provide you with a safe place to explore and resolve troubling feelings. I offer face to face, telephone and Skype counselling.

There are times when we feel overwhelmed. This might be because we are experiencing relationship issues, have difficulties at work, have lost a family member or a friend or or are facing a period of great upheaval. and uncertainty. Counselling can provide you with the opportunity to explore these issues and can help you think about a way forward. It can also help you with the emotional and physical symptoms of depression, panic and anxiety.

I am an experienced therapist and counsellor having worked in the NHS, the public sector and privately for 17 years.

How I work

I provide a safe, caring and confidential space in which you can talk about yourself, your life and explore your problems and difficulties. I mostly practice Psychodynamic therapy which means helping you identify any links between your present distress and past events and relationships.

Using this approach I aim to encourage you to think about the roots of your problems and develop greater personal insight and self-awareness. This insight and self-awareness can then lead to personal growth - a reduction in your distress, improved resilience, greater capacity for managing difficulties and the ability to form better relationships and achieve personal goals.

If appropriate we may also agree to adopt other counselling approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy  (CBT) or Solution Focused Therapy where I will encourage you to focus on the present and future and build solutions to your problems using the strengths you already possess. Whatever approach we take our relationship is likely to be central to the work.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Master’s Degree in Psychodynamic Practice from the University of Oxford and I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I work within the BACP Ethical Guidelines for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I also have an IPC in Cognitive Behaviour Approach from Birmingham University. I am fully insured and receive regular supervision.

Before working privately I managed a busy work place counselling service. This brought me into contact with a range of individuals and allowed me to build up significant experience of dealing with both personal and workplace issues. I have substantial experience of issues relating to loss whether that be the death of a family member, relationship breakdown, redundancy, illness or the loss of a physical ability.

I provide counselling in comfortable and quiet surroundings  at The Garden Room, Stour Row, near Shaftesbury.

I work on behalf of a number of private healthcare organisations including Bupa, Nuffield, Aviva and Axa PPP. If you have private healthcare with one of these organisations please speak to your GP and your provider. Please also contact me for more information.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
