About me

At difficult times in our lives, when we are feeling stuck or alone with our problems, counselling can provide us with the support, confidentiality and acceptance that we need and can be a stepping stone to a more fulfilling life.

As an experienced counsellor, I can offer you a non-judgemental place to explore and express what’s on your mind, to make sense of past and present experiences and enable you to increase your understanding of yourself and gain a clearer perspective. No matter what you’re going through, things can change for the better.

Whether you need a change of direction in your life, have a difficult decision to make, or are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, loss,  a creative block, culture shock,  relationship difficulties or a general feeling of being lost, I work in a flexible way that suits your individual needs. Together we’ll take the time to work through your problems at your own pace in a comfortable environment in south Liverpool. My approach has a strong person-centred base, which means that I believe that fundamentally you know what is right for you and I will support you to find your own resources.

My role is to enable you to feel comfortable and to support you with whatever issue you bring.

I'm a professional therapist, supervisor, school counsellor and creative arts therapist with over 20 years of experience of working with a wide range of issues with clients in the private, educational and voluntary sectors. I also offer clinical supervision to  counsellors and other professionals in the care sector and parent consultations.

I can offer creative counselling, using a range of practical, enjoyable and effective self-help creative techniques for relaxation or personal development if you wish to do so. These include therapeutic writing, book and poetry therapy, drawing, mindfulness and creative visualisation. I work both short and long-term with a variety of issues.

Experience

My experience is extensive and includes setting up a private counselling practice, workplace counselling with Employee Assistance Schemes,  bereavement and loss counselling, therapy for international students and refugees in adult education, abuse counselling, play therapy and school counselling for primary schools and charities and consultancy for a therapy and wellbeing educational service. I have experience of working with multi-cultural issues connected with transition and culture shock.

I offer creative approaches to self-development, relaxation, or any kind of issue and have run relaxation, mindfulness and self-help workshops on a number of issues in varied settings. I also offer parent consultations. For certain situations, I can provide a series of 3-4 interim support and guidance sessions that would focus on ways of coping, including grounding, coping with stress and anxiety, mindfulness techniques, self-care and psychoeducation.

I have an enhanced DBS, insurance and attend regular clinical supervision as part of the requirements of my profession for good practice.

Please get in touch if you feel this mode of therapy would suit you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

SUPERVISION

As an integrative therapist, I offer a supportive, collaborative, non-judgemental environment in which to reflect on and explore all aspects of clinical practice and professional development. The people I supervise work in a range of settings including private practice, universities, GP practices, schools, charities and children’s services teams. I use a humanistic model of supervision as it is a useful framework for therapists from different modalities to build expertise. A range of creative techniques can be used if appropriate.

In the first meeting, we will see if we can work together. I will discuss your situation with you and what you would like to gain from the sessions and will explain the way I work. It is very important that you choose the right counsellor for your needs and there is no obligation to continue after this session.

If you would like to discuss the possibility of counselling or supervision, please feel free to take the first step and get in touch for an initial discussion.
