About me

I believe the most effective gift I can offer is a willingness to listen deeply and pay careful attention to your concerns. Although my background is psychology of human communication, followed by psychotherapy and counselling, none of that matters unless you feel valued and genuinely heard. Experience tells me that connection between one real, honest, compassionate person and another is the soil in which a truly healing relationship can grow.

I know that counselling can sometimes feel like trying to unravel a tangled ball of wool. You’re not sure where the end is, and have no clue how to begin. Often you don’t know how you got here, or where you’re going. But you just feel something needs to change. I will sit with you in the chaos, the uncertainty, or the fear, and hold fast to the belief that, whilst I may be an expert in some things, you are the expert in You. I will endeavour to see the world as you see it – through your eyes - so that together we can start to make sense of, and draw meaning from the things that trouble you.

My approach is integrative-relational-developmental. ‘Integrative’ because I draw on different theories to provide the best clinical practice for you; ‘relational’ because I believe healing is largely found within a compassionate, stable relationship, and ‘developmental’ because we cannot divorce the things that happen to us from the things we find within us as a result of our journey through the normal developmental stages through of life.

I am no stranger to adversity myself, but have discovered that it is possible to live a happy and fulfilled life. This means I know that you can too.

If you would like an initial free 20 minute chat to see if we might work well together, give me a call or drop me an email. I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
