About me

About me

I am a HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) registered and BPS (British Psychological Society) Chartered Counselling Psychologist and a BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) Accredited DIT Therapist. I hold an Associate Fellow membership of the BPS. I am also a trainee EMDR therapist.

I currently work as a counselling psychologist and CBT therapist at the NHS and operate a private practice on Thursday morning and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. I see young people (aged 16-17) and adult individuals for a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life crisis, life stress, personal development and relationship problems.

I am very passionate about and dedicated to what I do and I always make sure that my clients leave therapy feeling happier than when they started the treatment, as well as confident enough to deal with whatever challenges life may throw at them in the future. On basis of my experience, I can confidently say that most people start making either some progress or quite significant changes within a relatively short time frame of the treatment (depending on the type of difficulties they present with and the type of treatment they have).

Training, qualifications & experience

I have gained extensive and substantial experience over the years working as a counselling psychologist and a high-intensity CBT Therapist within different IAPT services in the NHS. I also obtained work experience in the private sector and in secondary care services, as an honorary psychotherapist, during my training.

My Approach and style

My main approach is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), integrative psychotherapy and Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT); both CBT and DIT are recommended by the NICE guidelines as effective treatment models for a wide range of psychological problems. I also use other approaches, such as psychodynamic psychotherapy (brief or long-term), counselling, and elements of mindfulness-based CBT (MCBT) and EMDR.

Regardless of the modality of the treatment, my style is mainly based on the pluralistic, humanistic and relational approaches to therapy and counselling. This means that I see every person as a unique individual and tailor the treatment to suit that individual's specific needs, rather than fitting the person into a 'one-size fits all' model. While I closely adhere to the NICE guidelines treatment protocols, I also use the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for transformation and change.

Professional Development

I attend regular CPD (Continuous Professional Development) workshops and training courses to keep up with any new developments in the field, learn new therapeutic skills and learn about recently emerging research findings, in order to inform my practice. After completing a Practitioner Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DPsych), I also trained in DIT and ACT. I am also currently training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) therapy.

What to do next

If you have any enquires, please call me or email me and I will get back to you. I will offer you an appointment as soon as I can. In the assessment session we will explore your current difficulties, identify the main problem, discuss what type of therapy would be the most suitable for you and identify the goals you would like to achieve. Depending on your main difficulties, the duration and intensity of those difficulties, and the goals you would like to achieve in therapy, we might work within one therapeutic model or draw upon a variety of theories and techniques of the above listed therapeutic approaches. If we find that I am not able to help you with your difficulties, then I will be able to refer you to another mental health professional or point you in the right direction.

Further information

"Before I came to see Izabel, I had been through 3 different therapists for my depression, loneliness and feelings of worthlessness. None of the previous therapies worked for me, so I felt very hopeless and helpless. Izabel's integrative approach was a softer and friendlier approach, which worked for me well. She gave me a lot of support and encouragement and within a few sessions I started becoming more confident. Then I was able to look at the things I needed to change and with Izabel's help and support within 6 months I got a new job, became more active and even met someone. I cannot thank her enough." Lyndsey M., London

"Izabel is a wonderful therapist, who helped me get my life back on track. She is very friendly, kind, open and understanding. For the first time in years I am panic free and am able to get on public transport without the fear of not being able to breathe and dying or making a fool of myself in front of others, which is very freeing. CBT worked for me!" Simon, Essex

"I saw Izabel for 16 sessions of DIT, which at first I found difficult, as it isn't your usual kind of talking therapy. However, after I got used to the style of therapy, I started enjoying the sessions and learnt an awful lot about who I am and my role in relationships. I feel that it has definitely helped me to become more aware of my own actions and their impact on other people. I also learnt amazing coping strategies to manage my high expectations and deal with relationship issues more effectively. I am grateful for all the support and help!" T.K., West London

"I was suffering from quite severe anxiety, fear and anger issues, leading to personal and work-related issues. I was on antidepressants, which weren't very helpful. Izabel diagnosed me with PTSD in the first session and with the help of CBT and a bit of counselling, I was able to process the trauma I had experienced so many years ago, put it in the past and finally move on with my life. Since then I am like a new person - free, happy and definitely much more pleasant to be around! It was very hard work, but it was all worth it and it made a whole world of difference. I couldn't have done it without Izabel's amazing therapeutic skills and never-ending support. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a good therapist." Agnieszka P., London

"I am so happy I had Izabel for my therapist. She taught me many good techniques to manage my anxieties and listened to me without any judgment when I just needed to vent and talk. I would definitely see her again without a second thought, but I feel confident that I am able to manage on my own from now on. Thank you for all the support, your devotion to helping me and your brilliant and amazing work." Carole S., London
