About me

Sometimes the first step is the hardest, you have already taken it ... you are here.

Face to Face, Zoom or another platform, the session is about you.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and I am a Registered Counsellor on the voluntary register which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.

I have worked in both the Private and Public Sector in the South East of England for 30 years before moving to Cornwall in 2016. I ran a successful Private Practice in Hertfordshire with a client base formed from GP referrals as well as personal recommendation.

I offer one to one sessions from my home which is a comfortable space in Polperro as well as home visits and on line sessions.

As some people find it difficult to leave their homes I am pleased to be able to bridge this gap by providIng counselling at the clients home. These sessions would be following an initial assessment.

Some clients circumstances lend themselves to Zoom or FaceTime sessions, this can be for a number of reasons from time constraints, demographics or psychological. Video sessions can sometimes also allow clients to engage easier.

Whatever your reason my aim is to offer a counselling service which is compatible for us to get most effective experience together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Counsellor having trained with the awarding body CPCAB. I practise an integrative approach using psychodynamic and humanistic theories. This means I can be flexible according to your needs.

I am experienced in dealing with a range of issues including relationship difficulties, bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression and general life difficulties. I have additional experience in dealing with those who have suffered a sudden and traumatic event in their lives and have been trained to assess those who are at risk from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

I have designed and delivered training sessions for Essex Police staff as well as worked on a consultative level for the Blue Light Project for MIND. I am registered with both the PFOA - Police Firearms Officers Association and Devon and Cornwall Police providing counselling when required for their Members and Staff.

I have attended a bespoke training course at the Tavistock Centre in London for Couples Therapy which enable me to work within the couples dynamics.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Key details

My office is located in the pretty village of Polperro, but with this comes accessibility problems. Clients must be able bodied as there are a large number of steps to my cottage and no parking nearby.
