About me

Hi, I’m Ilan! I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Director of The Oak Tree Practice and Little Bee Clinic. I wanted to tell you a bit more about myself, as I realise selecting a psychologist can be a tough task!

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I feel very privileged to be able to say I love what I do and always have, ever since I started working for ChildLine in 2007. Following this, I’ve had experience working with a wide variety of clients including children, young people, adults, older adults, military personnel, individuals with learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders and neurological conditions.  I have also furthered my studies through the completion of undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees.

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

A Clinical Psychologist has completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is trained to work with people of all ages who have mental health difficulties or challenges in their lives. Clinical Psychologists have expertise using a variety of different types of therapy (such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy) so they can offer support that is tailored to you. Clinical Psychologists are also trained in conducting research projects and the importance of offering therapy that has evidence saying that it works.

What will it be like when I meet you?

One of the most important parts of my work is building relationships with those sitting opposite me. I have always believed that you can have all the training and knowledge in the world, but if the client doesn’t return, none of this can be put into action. Therefore, my first aim is always to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where we can work on the clients’ difficulties together.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I have training and expertise in a variety of different therapies, such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy. These are effective in helping people overcome difficulties such as low mood, anxiety, anger, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem/confidence, coping with the loss a loved one, the impact of trauma or adjusting to new life circumstances. I appreciate that many rely on their psychologist to provide a therapy that suits them best. Therefore, my experience enables me to provide tailor made therapy using the most effective methods at supporting individuals to overcome their difficulties.

What are your interests outside of psychology?

Aside from my work, I’m an avid sports fan. I love to play and watch a variety of sports, and employ many of the skills I help others develop whilst watching my frustrating team, Arsenal, play football. I love to spend time with my family and friends, watch comedy and travel.

Testimonials:

"As a family, we found the consultation sessions with our troubled teenager extremely helpful. After a 6 week period, she was much happier and able to cope with her issues. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Practice for dealing with personal problems."

"I contacted Ilan when my son age 15 yrs suddenly started to struggle with impending exams and relationships.  Ilan was able to over the next year give my son a place of understanding and support to allow him to engage in the difficulties he was having and give him strategies to handle difficult situations. My son has now a more rounded sense of self and ability to cope with the natural challenges he faces in adolescence"

"I saw Ilan six times to help me with my crippling anxiety and low mood which has been stopping me from performing well at work. I was also starting to withdraw from my friends and family. Ilan was welcoming and really went out of his way to support me with emails and telephone calls. Since meeting him, I am well on the way to recovery and feel better equipped to deal with my problems and overcome them. Thanks."
