About me

Hello, my name is Ian, I am a BACP Accredited & NCPS Accredited Professional psychotherapist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) practitioner providing CBT conselling and psychotherapy services in the Belfast & Greater Belfast area and also online. I am also a BUPA registered therapist. Whatever your issue that brings you to CBT therapy, I will meet it with compassion, curiosity and care. I use a contemporary, rational and evidence based CBT therapy framework which aims to reduce your presenting symptoms and get you thinking, feeling and behaving like the human being you want to be.

Training, qualifications & experience

My areas of practice in which I am experienced and hold relevant academic and professional qualifications to practise include, working with anxiety, social anxiety, depression, panic disorder, and PTSD. I have also received specialist training and practised as a grief therapist since 2018. My clinical experience is derived from working within the the NHS, NI Local Enhanced Scheme, supporting clients referred by GP practices under the Stepped Care model since 2019. I am also trained as as EMDR Level 2 Practitioner.

I am trained to postgraduate level in conselling/psychotherapy. Full details of my qualifications including certificates are available on my website: www.woodmerecbt.com

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
