Iain O'Rourke (BSc Hons, MBACP)
I'm Iain and I'm a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist working within Nottingham.
At times our experience of life can leave us feeling that something is not quite right, our life is difficult, or sometimes overwhelming. Working through these experiences within therapy may help us come to terms with them.
Working together, we develop a relationship which can become a microcosm to help you understand yourself, your experiences and your feelings. Our relationship can be utilised to help you achieve desired change within your life, look at past experiences, and maybe integrate them, and allow growth for the future.
I believe that awareness is the first step to which helps motivate change, so this means we may focus on what is happening between us in the moment whilst also looking into the past to make connections between what is going on for you now and how the past may affect you as you relate to the present. Our work will be driven by you and what you want to bring into the session.
I will not lie to you, my own experiences of therapy has shown me how challenging therapy can be pushing you to your limits, but you will find that whilst we work together I will walk alongside you, collaboratively, supporting you as you look into yourself.
I am committed to offering counselling in a safe, confidential, supportive and a non-judgmental environment, a space where you feel free to explore the issues that have bought here to look at my page. You will find me open, honest, robust, patient, trustworthy and stable. I am passionate about my work.
I truly believe that within each of us lies an incredible potential for growth and change.
I work both short and long-term dependent upon what you want to explore. You may have some specific goals to work towards or have a more general feeling of what you want to look at, whatever it is we can explore together what is going on for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm, what's known as, a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist who trained and graduated from the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute after completing their BSc (Hons.) Counselling and Psychotherapy degree, accredited by Staffordshire University.
This means that I work with you on your level, I am no expert and offer no solutions, you are the expert in you and I become your student as you teach me about yourself, my role is simply to help you facilitate looking into yourself.
I am a registered member of the BACP and follow their code of ethics.
I currently work with a counselling charity within Nottingham, a city university and private practice. I have past experience with Cruse Bereavement care and a further education counselling service.
