About me

Hello and welcome to my profile. Choosing the right counsellor for you is important, there are many profiles and it can feel hard to know where to start. I appreciate first hand that taking the first steps to find a counsellor can feel overwhelming, in a time where you may already be experiencing anxiety, depression or worries. Still despite this, here you are taking those courageous first steps.

I hope by giving you a little bit of information about myself and my experience it may help you in deciding which counsellor feels right for you. My name is Ellie Wharton and I am a qualified counsellor. I understand that life can sometimes feel overwhelming and you might feel stuck and unable to move forward. You may feel unable to talk to family and friends because you do not want to burden them or are fearful of judgement. I take pride in being a warm and compassionate person. As a Person Centred Counsellor I believe that the relationship between myself and the people whom come to me for counselling is very important. I offer a non judgemental space which enables people to feel safe to be their true self and explore things which may feel difficult.

If this sounds like something that may be beneficial for you, please feel free to contact me via email or phone and we can arrange an appointment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor and have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I previously volunteered as a counsellor at Cancer Support Yorkshire once a week and I am an Individual member of the BACP.

I have many years experience supporing people with learning disabilities.

I also have a BSc degree in Nursing and Social Work and have six and a half years experience of working with children and families.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
