Helen Yates

About me
Hi I'm Helen and I have been counselling since 1999. Many of us have times when we can't see our way through the difficulties we're having and we really need someone to talk to. Family and friends can be a great support but often we need to talk to someone who is not affected or involved. I can offer a safe and confidential environment in which we can work together through any issues you are facing.
Sometimes we experience anxiety or depression or find it hard to cope with life and not know why or where it's come from. It really helps to be able to explore what you are feeling and thinking without anyone judging you, so that you can work out your own way to resolve things.
I work in a holistic way, with the whole person, taking into account that our mental, emotional and physical well being can depend on a number of factors including physical health, our thoughts and belief systems and our physical and social environment.
I am experienced in working with difference and cross-culturally, with adults and young people from diverse countries, faiths and cultures, and with gender and sexuality.
You can contact me by text or by email and I will get back to you as soon as possible so that we can arrange an initial appointment.
About me
I have been a Special Needs teacher with adults and young people and from that experience became interested in how our emotions affect behaviour and learning.
I started work as a counsellor in Leicester with Open Door, a youth and community organisation. I worked with young people, mostly late teens and early twenties, from many different nationalities and faiths. I also worked with children 11 -16 in schools across the city.
I moved to Mid Wales in 2008, working part time at Coleg Ceredigion, a further education College in Aberystwyth, then returning to North Wales, where I grew up, in 2012. Here I work with adults, as a volunteer for an organisation supporting bereavement and have a small private practice.
Training, qualifications & experience
Certificate in Counselling Vaughan College, Leicester 1997
Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy Trent University, Nottingham 2003
BACP accreditation 2008
Since then I have completed a number of shorter courses and workshops including the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course and Bereavement Care Training Course, which have greatly enhanced my work as a therapist. I have also started the CSTD course in London on Supervision.
I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I adhere to the BACP's ethical framework and codes of practice.
