Hello and welcome. My name is Helen Monaghan from New Road Counselling, I am an established Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Most of us will at some point in our lives experience some form of mental and emotional anguish. As an experienced counsellor working with individuals for over 10 years, I would like to offer you support and a confidential space to talk about what is troubling you.
Being able to put into words and explore with another, can potentially allow us to experience a different way of engaging and seeing what is causing our inner turmoil. We can start to understand, how our previous and creative ways in dealing with life, can underpin problematic feelings and behaviour that we now experience today. Why do talking therapies work? Because they open authentic communication with yourself, which reveals our vitality, a door way into understanding who we are and where we want to be.

Training, qualifications & experience
I have helped many clients who have presented with issues surrounding their relationships and family breakdowns, grief and loss, to addictions, domestic violence and trauma related experiences. Over the past few years, I have seen a rise in work place stress and other issues relating to our professional lives. There is a feeling of ever increasing pressure to achieve, to be connected whilst enduring dissatisfaction and possibly conflict both within and around our working life. I have also worked in addiction and rehabilitation centres such as Vale House, Haringey Advisory Group on Alcohol and Islington Drug and Alcohol Service. When dealing with areas of speciality such as anxiety disorders and depression, I will often use the beneficial tools of Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA).
I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy
I hold an Upper B.A. (Hons) Degree in Humanistic & Integrative Counselling with Middlesex University
I completed the BACP Accredited Diploma in Person Centred Counselling
I completed the Advanced Motivational Interviewing course with HAGA
I have CBT and Motivational Interviewing Skills
I am qualified in Working with Vulnerable Adults - CoA London Borough of Camden
I gained the Certificate in Connection Coaching
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
