About me

Hi, I am Helen McNicol and I run my own counselling service in Chalfont St Giles, where I offer a safe environment so you can talk about your difficulties in complete confidence.

I specialise in teenagers and young adults, as I appreciate that the world we live in can sometimes be stressful.  Pressures of school, peer pressure,  family issues plus social demands can sometimes all feel too much.

I have helped clients overcome many of these issues plus related issues such as self harm, anger, anxiety and eating disorders.

I believe my own experience of the world (I was a bank manager and currently a Magistrate) combined with my specialist training has provided me with skills which has made me a counsellor who is modern, approachable and down to earth.

I am a qualified counsellor in Person Centred Therapy and I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychoptherapists, I adhere to their Professional Code of Practice and Ethical Framework.

As a person centred therapist I believe in working with the person, listening to what they say without judgement or prejudice. I am a practical, modern counsellor and am dedicated to offering support to those who wish to have counselling.

It maybe that you are a parent of a child/teenager who you realise is displaying emotional or physical signs that something is not quite right. As a parent myself there is nothing more upsetting than seeing your son/daughter being unhappy.

It maybe that you are a young person looking at counselling because you are feeling that there are areas in your life that don't feel right. Growing up in today's society can be quite hard and making sense of your feelings can be a struggle.

Through one to one counselling, in a safe and comfortable environment I can offer you support.

If you are a young person/adult and are looking at this and would like to chat or ask me some questions then please ring/text or email me.

If you are a parent and are looking at counselling for your son or daughter as you are concerned about them, then please do not hesitate to call me for an informal chat and we can talk about how I may be able to help.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
