Helen Cleary MBACP, BSc (Hons) Psychology, Pg Dip, MBPsS
Hello, my name is Helen and I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor. In addition, as a mature student, I am in the final stages of training as a counselling psychologist. I offer a holistic and non-judgmental approach to therapy where I strive to treat everyone as unique, whilst offering a respectful, transparent and open approach to working together.
I will work alongside you offering an empathic way of working so that you may explore your concerns and issues and reach the goals you will set during your therapy. I can offer you a long list of qualifications, however, the ability to develop a solid working relationship through excellent interpersonal skills whilst being approachable is fundamental to my approach for therapy. After all, listening, talking and working towards change is at the heart of therapy!
The counselling process is based on an integrative approach and I can offer a Person-Centred approach, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis modalities. I have considerable experience working in the NHS and am now able to offer some time for private clients. If you are seeking an experienced clinician in issues such as trauma, gender identity development, anxiety, both generalised and social anxieties, phobias, addiction, relationship issues, anger management and women's health and well-being (for a full list please see below). My experience has been enhanced whilst working within the Criminal Justice Service and this has allowed me to support individuals with many issues.
I am currently approaching the end of a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. This additional training has built upon previous experience and ongoing professional development to be able to offer all clients the best possible support whilst in therapy.
I have excellent interpersonal skills having gained experience working with people in the public and private sectors as an employee and volunteer. I am self-disciplined and have a natural way of being to engage clients, and colleagues.
My experience has been developed working in the NHS and I'm now offering a private practice based in Hale, Altrincham, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Chester, and across South Manchester and Cheshire. All the therapy rooms offer a calm and peaceful oasis for you to explore any issues in a safe and welcoming environment.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
