About me

Welcome to my profile page. If you are thinking about coming to see a counsellor you may be feeling unhappy or confused, have relationship or family difficulties, suffering work related stress, have experienced a loss or trauma of some kind or want to find a more meaningful way of living.

When we have difficult periods or experiences in our life talking to someone skilled and trained can really help.

About me

I am an experienced psychotherapist and have worked with a range of clients within and outside of the NHS. I am accredited by the BACP, which means I have achieved high standards in my work as an independent, ethical and competent therapist.

I work relationally which means I place a strong emphasis on the importance of the therapeutic relationship I build with clients. This enables me to think with my clients about the connection between past and present in the difficulties they are experiencing.

How I can help

Sometimes we can feel very stuck, either in our relationships or with particular emotional problems or painful life events and find it hard to know how to move through these difficult times.

My aim when working with clients is to offer a confidential, safe and supportive space where together we can begin to make sense of your thoughts and feelings and help you to understand yourself better.

Feeling heard, deeply understood and accepted can help you to explore your feelings more fully and openly and enable you to think about yourself in ways that you have not been able to consider before as well as develop skills for coping with emotional difficulties.

As a result, it is possible for you to feel like you have greater clarity, more choices and can change old ways of being that may have led to you feeling anxious, down or depressed. In turn this can lead to more satisfying relationships and ways of living.

I can help you:

  • Feel supported and less alone
  • Understand unhelpful patterns in your relationships,
  • Understand issues from the past
  • Work through stuck or recurring feelings,
  • Gain clarity and more control in your life,
  • Build self-esteem,
  • Develop coping strategies to manage symptoms of low mood and anxiety.
  • Create healing and greater resilience.

What to expect

Please contact me by email or phone and we can arrange an initial appointment, either face to face or Online.

Therapy takes place weekly and can be either short term work with a specific focus or longer term. We can discuss what feels appropriate for you at your first session. I aim to work at your pace, taking time to really understand what is happening for you, and then we can think together about what you need from therapy.

Do contact me if you’d like to find out more, I know it can feel like a big step to take, so I’m really happy to respond to any questions by phone or email.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

Sessions are 50 minutes long and generally take place at the same time each week. Our initial appointment is an opportunity for me to find out about your difficulties and how I might best help you and to see if you feel comfortable working with me. We would then discuss the best way forward.

I work with people short and long term and at our initial appointment we would agree  a number of sessions that we would meet. We can review this on a regular basis, according to your needs.

My fees are £60 per session.
