Helen Baker BA (Hons) Integrative Counselling
When we are experiencing distress, painful emotions or dissatisfaction with life, sharing feelings and thoughts, and receiving empathic understanding, can be healing and empowering. I offer warmth, acceptance and respectful listening; the chance to reflect and express yourself in your own time and in your own way. Counselling and psychotherapy is not about giving advice or fixing a problem but supporting you to recognise your own strengths, notice limiting thought patterns/beliefs and to look at your choices in order to move forward.
I am an Integrative, relational Psychotherapist which means that I draw on a range of theoretical approaches - that include CBT, mindfulness, attachment and psychodynamic theories - and tailor them to you as a unique individual. I can offer weekly, day or evening sessions in Guildford town centre with nearby parking and public transport.
My experience is within a counselling agency, hospital cancer centre and school, working with a wide range of issues that include grief, bereavement, depression, anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, anger, panic, relationship issues, stress, abuse, loneliness, trauma and long term illness.
Through my ongoing work at The Fountain Centre in the Royal Surrey Hospital, I have developed a special interest in working with people living with cancer and untreatable cancer and their families.
How I Work
My Integrative approach is based on humanistic, psychodynamic, attachment and cognitive behavioural theories. Above all, I offer a caring and confidential therapeutic relationship where we work together towards your self awareness and acceptance.
By reading this, you have taken the first step. Our initial session will give you the opportunity to talk through your reasons for seeking counselling and to choose whether you would like to continue. I work with both adults (18+) and couples.
