Heather Law MBACP (Snr Accred), UKRCP, UKCP
I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience. I am happy to offer both short-term counselling (usually 6 - 8 weeks) or open-ended long-term therapy. I work one to one with adults and also with couples, however I do not work with children.
I have many years' experience in running trainings and workshops in Anger Management, Assertiveness, Self Esteem and related topics as well as working with these issues on a one to one basis.
Only you can decide whether counselling or psychotherapy is for you, but in my experience, talking to someone who is neither a friend nor a family member can make all the difference. Every counsellor and psychotherapist is different, so it is important that you find a person who you feel at ease with, and who you feel is suited to helping you with your individual problems and issues. The main factor that determines successful therapy, is the relationship with the practitioner you choose to work with.
Training, qualifications & experience
MBACP (Snr Accred), UKRCP, UKCP,
My training was in both psychodynamic and humanistic therapy, and I now work from an integrative perspective.
Counselling and psychotherapy are both "talking therapies" and there is no definitive distinction between them. However, in general, counselling tends to be shorter term and deal with specific life issues, whereas psychotherapy tends to be longer term and to deal with "deeper" issues. I am comfortable working in both.
