Hi, my name is Heather Douglas. I am a qualified Person-Centred counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work by the code of ethics and professional standards for practice.
In my practice, I offer Person Centred Therapy to help facilitate and explore personal battles we all may face, in a therapeutic and confidential way. I am passionate about the Person Centred Approach as it allows for an honest and genuine openness which, for me, allows for a significant relationship between the individual and myself. It is within this relationship that we build understanding and growth.
Taking the first step and trusting that leap of faith can be the hardest part of this journey. However, possibly having someone to leap with, might not make it as scary?
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified from Strathclyde University with a Postgraduate Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and have been practicing within different organisations and with different client groups for a few years. I split my time working privately, within an EAP company carrying out clinical assessments and within an organisation who focus on helping individuals who hear voices.
Overall, I have experience working with individuals who experience,
- Personal/ work issues
- Abuse for both males and females
- Domestic violence
- Voice hearing/ hallucinations
- Personality disorders
- Mood disorders
- Relationship issues
I also participate in Continuous Personal Development and attend training and workshops in different fields on a regular basis in accordance to BACP guidelines. Furthermore, due to my background in support work, I have experience of working with different ethnicities and cultures.
I have completed Emotion Focused Therapy Level 1 and currently going through Level 2 where I hope to complete this by May 2018. Emotion Focused Therapy, or EFT, is based on the idea that emotions are not only important factors in our lives, but the key to who we are.
Currently I am working towards accreditation.
Areas of counselling I deal with
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem
- Personality disorders
- Physical abuse
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Relationship problems
Each session is a therapeutic hour of 50 minutes and is charged at a rate of £40 per session. Discounted rates may be applied for students and those of lower income. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please allow 24 hours notice, otherwise you may still be charged.
I enjoy the outdoors and love exploring Scotland and going on mini adventures around the world. I also enjoy weight training and keeping active. Food is a great passion of mine and I love trying new cuisines and exploring different tastes from different cultures and places. I do also like trying to cook these for friends and family, however this is not always as successful!
