About me

Are you struggling to cope with a problem or situation that is causing you distress? Counselling can help restore your well-being and ability to function better.

My name is Hazel and as a counsellor, I seek to help you by providing a safe, non-judgemental space in which to process your thoughts and feelings.

My counselling style is integrative and relational, with the use of psychodynamic insights.  This means that I will use different approaches, such as CBT, to suit your needs and look at how past experiences may have influenced your thoughts and actions in the present.

I believe the quality of the relationship between counsellor and client is the key to success. I offer a gentle, compassionate approach and listen carefully to gain full understanding of your situation.  We will then work together to make changes to empower you to move on positively with your life.

I offer both short and long-term work in general counselling, but have a particular interest in family issues, relationships, anxiety, depression and stress.

In the course of my work as a primary teacher over many years, I gained an understanding of the many stresses and strains parents with young children face in daily life.  As a pastoral care worker in my church, I also saw at firsthand how various challenging life situations caused distress and affected people’s emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being.  This led me to train as a counsellor.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work within their ethical framework.

I understand the need for a person seeking counselling to feel comfortable with their counsellor and to know that everything shared is confidential.  With that in mind, I offer a free initial session, after which you can decide whether to proceed with counselling.

I work from home in a peaceful location on the outskirts of Huddersfield.  Please contact me to arrange a first meeting.
