I’ll do everything I can to help you work through and move on from whatever has prompted you to seek help today.
I’m Harriet Summerfield, a BACP-registered integrative counsellor and psychotherapist with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I had two decades of experience in the voluntary and public sectors – including education, social care and the NHS – before practising in the NHS and becoming a qualified counsellor.
If you’re nearby, you can choose to have face-to-face sessions, in my counselling room in Staffordshire or as outdoor therapy. I love being outdoors and embrace the benefits of experiencing a natural environment, so outdoor therapy is an important part of my practice. Nature and beautiful green places provide an inspiring space to reflect and process thoughts and emotions.
I also deliver online and telephone therapy to clients all over the UK and have a specialist certificate in online and telephone counselling.
Alongside my counselling practice, I’m currently working on my Masters degree in counselling, with a research focus on outdoor therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a qualified and BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist, and I’m ready to work with you.
I work with adults across the UK. I can provide short-term or long-term therapy.
I have a background working in the voluntary and public sector including education, social care and the NHS, spanning twenty years.
I have practiced as a counsellor in the NHS and hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling as well as a Certificate in Counselling. I also hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling that’s recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the National Counselling Society and others. It’s your reassurance that you’ll get the same high-quality counselling as you would face to face. I have also undertaken training in delivering outdoor therapy.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Free initial telephone or online session
Free initial consultation - you need to be confident that I’m the right counsellor for you. A free 20-minute initial consultation – by Zoom or phone call – is a chance for you to tell me what you’re hoping for from therapy. And I’ll tell you more about how I work and how I can help you.
You can book a daytime or evening session to be held either face-to-face, online or on the telephone.
I follow the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework, undertake regular supervision and am fully insured and DBS checked.
