About me
I’ll do everything I can to help you work through and move on from whatever has prompted you to seek help today.
I’m Harriet Summerfield, a BACP-registered integrative counsellor and psychotherapist with an MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I had two decades of experience in the voluntary and public sectors – including education, social care and the NHS – before practising in the NHS and becoming a qualified therapist.
I deliver online and telephone therapy to clients all over the UK and have a specialist certificate in online and telephone counselling.
If you’re nearby, you can choose to have face-to-face sessions, in one of my counselling rooms in Staffordshire or as outdoor therapy.
I love being outdoors and embrace the benefits of experiencing a natural environment, so outdoor therapy is an important part of my practice. Nature and beautiful green places provide an inspiring space to reflect and process thoughts and emotions.
I received a Distinction in my Masters degree in counselling, with a research focus on outdoor therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a qualified and BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist, and I’m ready to work with you.
I work with adults across the UK. I can provide short-term or long-term therapy.
I have a background working in the voluntary and public sector including education, social care and the NHS, spanning twenty years.
I have practiced as a counsellor in the NHS and hold an MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, a Post-Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Counselling.
I also hold a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling that’s recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the National Counselling Society and others. It’s your reassurance that you’ll get the same high-quality counselling as you would face to face. I have also undertaken training in delivering outdoor therapy.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
