About me

The pandemic has made things harder for everyone - if you have been bereaved, or your anxiety is worse, or your relationships have become strained, or long Covid has changed what you can do -  Counselling can help.

036619_logo.jpgI believe that when choosing a counsellor, it is very important to find someone that you are comfortable talking to and who you feel safe in trusting.  The thought of sharing a problem with a stranger can be very daunting - even this might feel harder remotely.  Provided you find the right person, it can be so much easier to share really difficult issues with someone who is not a member of your immediate family or one of your friends.

While I am unable to see you face to face (due to Covid restrictions), my aim is to make a telephone call or working online feel as close to the experience of a face to face session as I possibly can.  Video calls might seem off putting, but it can help you feel as though you are actually in a room talking to me. I will listen carefully and non-judgmentally, with respect in complete confidence. Together we can explore what is troubling you, and begin to find a way for you to reach your own decisions and make your own choices.

I run a private practice - working on the telephone or online, means I can work with people all over the country.  I have fifteen years of extensive counselling experience, in particular working with people whose lives have been turned upside down by the loss of someone precious.

My background is twenty five years as a nurse.  While nursing, I became aware that the strong connection between body and mind affects everything.  It seemed that what people needed as much as physical care was someone who had time to talk in safety and confidence. I have an enduring interest in working with all sorts of health related issues and, in particular, with families and individuals coping with cancer, and other life limiting illness and disability. I support clients who are affected by neurological disorders and their families and carers for the charity Neuro Central in central Scotland.

I adhere to the new General Data Protection Regulations (2018), which protects your privacy and rights to confidentiality.  Full details of my privacy policy can be found on my website.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
