About me

Hello, I'm Hannah. In an ever-changing and uncertain world, counselling is an opportunity to take stock and reflect on how life feels for you. No matter what your concern might be, I can give you a safe place to explore your unique take on life. Difficult thoughts and feelings can be listened to respectfully and without fear of being judged. Whether you're feeling anxious, depressed, unfulfilled or unable to cope - you don't have to face your struggle alone.

I am an experienced counsellor with a background in working with people whose lives have been affected by cancer and terminal illness. I have consequently developed a special interest in supporting those struggling with grief, bereavement and loss. However, my work also covers a broad range of personal, relationship and work related issues. I have also run stress management workshops for corporate business institutions.

Whether in-person or online, I am committed to providing a warm, confidential  environment where together we can talk things through. I work with individuals on a 1:1 basis and according to what suits your needs best, counselling can be either short or long-term.

Where to start? Finding a counsellor may like feel a daunting process, but to help you through this I offer a free 30 minute initial session to find out whether or not we're right for each other. I will also gladly answer any questions by phone or email without further obligation.

How to connect Sessions can take place in-person,  online or over the telephone. Should you have any questions concerning this please don't hesitate to get in touch. Social distancing and self-isolation do not have to be a barrier to you getting the support you need.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Qualifications
FdSc Humanistic Counselling
NCFE Counselling Skills and Theory, Levels 1-3
As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to its Ethical Framework and attend regular supervision.

Experience
Alongside my private practice I have spent a number of years working as a volunteer counsellor at the Fountain Centre; a charity that supports cancer patients, their families and carers. This experience has led me to develop a special interest in working with people coming to terms with life changing or terminal illness and grief.

How I Work
I am a Humanistic counsellor which means my approach is rooted in the ‘here-and-now’ of how we live our life. Past experiences and relationships are explored in terms of the impact they have on the person we are today. To support this l integrate Person-Centred therapy with Gestalt and Existential philosophy as part of a therapeutic approach that strives to raise a deeper awareness and understanding of feelings, encourage greater personal responsibility and help individuals realise their potential.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
