About me

Dr Greg StocksPsychologist,HCPC - Clin. Psych.01905 958309

As part of being a Psychologist, I am passionate about working with people, finding where they can gain more power in their life to affect the changes they want to see. I work with people with a wide range of difficulties and am keen to help them to contextualise their difficulties within their life experiences, to support the dropping of the toxic self-blame which often keeps people snagged, and to think about alternative ways of relating to themselves and others which opens up choices about where they might take their life in the future.

In my practice I always hope to express compassion, that is sensitive to the needs of those I'm communicating with. In this sense, I think I'm a friendly guy, and would welcome your inquiry.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist with expertise working across Adult Mental Health, Physical Health (Long-Term Conditions) and Child, Adolescent and Family settings.

Clinically, the models I draw on include:

  • Third wave cognitive behavioural models (predominantly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion Focused approaches)
  • Cognitive analytic theory
  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Attachment based approaches (including mentalization based ideas)
  • Critical approaches, drawing on the role of adversity and oppression (e.g. Power Threat Meaning Framework)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

Health and Care Professions Council

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
