About me
My name is Govind. As your counsellor, I will provide a confidential supportive space aiming to build a rapport and a sense of trust so that you are able to gently explore your challenges at a pace that is comfortable to you. I principally help you talk about your issues in the here and now but can also work with you to explore past experiences if they are a draw or an anchor influencing your thoughts and feelings today.
I’m currently engaged in advanced training in cognitive behavioural approaches to counselling (CBT) and may suggest some or many aspects of that approach that may help you in and out of sessions if it feels appropriate to what your issues are.
I have experience in different careers, as a scientist, in business and in academia working in several different countries around Europe as well as Japan and the US. This has given me an insight into many different cultures around the world and grow an understanding of the wonderful diversity there is in people and a passion for supporting people to understand their uniqueness in this world. This first led me to volunteer with the Samaritans supporting people with their mental health challenges on the phone and at music festivals and continues now as a counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
In my practice, I have worked with individuals from teenagers through to adults past retirement age all with their own way of being and feeling about the world they experience. You may express your own uniqueness in several different ways, from ways of thinking (neurodiverse) to sexuality and cultural identity. However, as you experience the world I offer a safe space where you can explore the challenges you are facing and hope to work with you to build up a sense of trust to allow you to explore your thoughts and behaviours in as much depth as you feel comfortable.
I work with no pre-set limits to the number of sessions and am comfortable working in short term work of around 12 sessions (usually with a CBT approach) to long-term work depending on your needs.
We can have a free initial 30-minute consultation so you can see if you feel I am the right counsellor for you.
