About me

I am an experienced psychotherapist working with individuals and couples in both traditional and diverse relationships. During my ten years practising, I have supported people from a wide variety of backgrounds helping them with  issues like loss and life change, anxiety and intrusive thoughts, identity and self esteem, family / relationship dynamics and personal growth. I have also been a supervisor for 6 years and taught psychotherapy students for 7 years on an accredited course.

I work with couples experiencing relationship difficulties, using a combination of communication models and attachment and developmental theories. I have worked with a wide variety of both diverse (including ENM) and traditional relationship types in therapy. Many couples seek therapy when they reach a crisis point and while this is a valid reason to reach out, I encourage seeking support earlier to strengthen and improve the relationship before issues escalate. Communication is most often the start point, then refocussing on your care and empathy for each other. I have a particular interest in supporting couples with fertility issues, navigating fertility treatment and adjusting to life without children.

Another main area of my work is supporting self-improvement and career progression. Psychotherapy can be helpful if you're feeling unfulfilled in your career, in need of direction or just feel ready for a change. Perhaps workplace stress or interpersonal dynamics are creating challenges that raise important questions for you. Often people use their sessions to uncover underlying and unconscious patterns in their thinking that may be contributing to these difficulties. I use a variety of techniques including creative and psychodynamic methods. However, sometimes, simply having a safe space to talk things through can be enough.

A bit more about me. Before training as a therapist I had a successful corporate career which gave me the opportunity to travel to various countries. However, I found myself increasingly drawn to people development rather than business targets, with a deep interest in the uniqueness of the individual. Following my own transformative experience with therapy, I chose this career which has been more meaningful for me. Personally, my roots are firmly in the local area and after living away, including time abroad, I’ve come to appreciate that there’s no place like home. As a psychotherapist, I've worked with a diverse range of clients and I find the therapy is at its best when there is a good connection between therapist and client. I've been fortunate to have many meaningful connections over the years.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a postgraduate diploma in psychotherapy, a diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling and a diploma in supervision. The training for these qualifications was on courses accredited by UKCP or BACP. I have taken further training in couples therapy and fertility treatment with BICA.

I have worked with a broad range of clients for individual sessions over a ten-year period. I offer both short and long-term options for counselling and psychotherapy working with topics such as anxiety and intrusive thoughts, bereavement, life change, illness, relationship issues, family dynamics, self-esteem, proactive personal growth and career progression. I also have personal and professional experience with the entertainment industry and elite sports and welcome clients from these fields.

Regards how I work, we would begin with the building of a therapeutic alliance where you can feel able to explore what you want from therapy. This helps me understand you so I can tailor your therapy to you. We have regular discussions about the work, how it is going and what you might want to do next.

While I offer some guidance, your therapy will always be your choice.

For some people, all that is needed is talking but I do also use creative and psychodynamic methods sometimes to enable exploration of relevant past experience should this become an area of therapy you wish to work on.
