About me

I offer an initial free 30 minute assessment session. This is a time for me to find out more about you the issue that is troubling you and for us to see how we can work together.

Your story matters to me and as a qualified counsellor and a caring human being I want to help you cope with whatever you are facing now and help you discover new choices to change your experience of life.

Following the lifting of Covid regulations I would still ask that if clients are experiencing cold or flu like symptoms that they refrain from seeing me during that period. This is to ensure I am able to carry out my work in helping others and reduce passing on infections.

The issues that people come to me for are anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, relationship issues, family problems, phobias, addictions, bereavement and loneliness. Often the issues can be about purpose and meaning and a sense of having lost one's way.

How can counselling help you

Counselling is not about giving advice but helping you to find your own answers. It is a space where you can meet yourself afresh; discover new potentials and make the changes you need to help you manage and cope with life.

I also offer coaching and teaching on practical ways to improve the symptoms of anxiety and emotional overwhelm.

It can be short term addressing issues that are recent that you just need to talk through to discover your options.

OR

It can be longer term counselling, addressing issues that have been around for a many years and have been affecting you, the relationships you have and the way you have lived your life. These issues can arise from family life or growing up experiences such as abuse, neglect, bullying, living with depressed relatives, bereavement, a sense of not being cared for and any form or traumatic experience big or small, acute or chronic.

Counselling is about exploring these life events, making sense of your story and give you space to explore your feelings, thoughts and beliefs about them.  And discovering how you have managed and coped; what strengths you have and what changes you want to make for the future.

During counselling I will offer you

  • A safe, private and confidential space to talk about your problem.
  • My full attention to help you feel heard, understood and not judged.
  • An opportunity to explore what is happening for you in relationships with friends, family and romantic partner.
  • Offer some helpful exercises for releasing tension and anxiety.
  • The opportunity to discover and deepen the strengths and skills you have.
  • Help to develop your sense of self awareness and self reflection.
  • Help to improve and increase the choices you have.

Choosing a counsellor can be difficult and worrying. You may have questions about my efficacy? Will I be able to help you or care about you? Will you get on with me? Will you like me? There are no easy answers. I would suggest that you trust your instincts and feelings and see where it leads. And of course you do not have to continue with me - you have a choice.

Getting started...

During your free initial consultation of 30 minutes we will discuss your expectations and hopes. Also you will be given more information about counselling and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Thereafter, each session of 50 minutes is charged at £40, paid by cash, cheque or bank transfer after each session.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
