About me

So often, we only have a sense of things not being ‘right’; and we keep going, in the hopes that it will right itself in time. Sadly, that doesn’t always happen. Counselling can give you the opportunity to explore issues to better understand what is going on and the possibility of changing or adapting your circumstances.

How counselling can help

As I believe everyone is created through relationship (of parents), develops in relationships with others, and is damaged by and through relationships with others, we receive healing and growth through relationship, particularly positive, life-affirming, supportive and caring relationships.  This in what I attempt to offer my clients, in a safe, containing space where they may feel enabled to do the emotional growing and self-understanding in exploring the issues they wish to discuss.

How we might start counselling together

I would invite you to contact me for an initial discussion about your reasons for coming to counselling, so that we can discuss how best we may be able to work together. I work with adults over 18, on a 1-1 basis. I do not work with couples.

What you could expect from coming to counselling with me

I work as an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe many current issues are the result of difficulties experienced in childhood, for which we develop coping mechanisms. However, our coping methods don't always work for the rest of our lives, and often when we reach adulthood, become a problem.  All too often, this becomes obvious in our relationships with others. I also use practical strategies and affirming techniques, enabling me to tailor-make my counselling to each person’s individual needs. I offer a respectful, client-led person-centred approach that conforms to the ethical practice of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, of which I am a registered member.

My private practice is known as Compass Counselling and Psychotherapy - helping navigate through life's journeys.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Negotiating the post Covid-19 pandemic climate, in addition to offering face-to-face sessions, I offer telephone and online counselling via Zoom, a secure platform that enables us to talk together in an encrypted secure environment, without the current risks of face to face contact.  It does make counselling a definite option to consider, if face to face counselling is not possible for you.

I still try to keep my counselling room as safe as I can for us both, with an efficient air purifier, and can put up a transparent screen between us if that helps you feel safer.
