Training, qualifications & experience
I am an experienced clinical psychologist, with over 12 years of experience in mental health, and over 10 years of experience in working with children, adolescents and their families. My training includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), systemic (family) approach, behavioural approaches, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) approach, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I use these, and other models, integratively in my work to find the best approach that will fit the individual I am working with.
I completed a three-year BPS (British Psychological Society)-accredited undergraduate course in Psychology (BSc. Hons) at the University of York, York. I then completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Mental Health (PDip) at the University of York.
Thereafter, I completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at the University of Hull. This is a full-time four-year professional clinical training programme, which combines teaching and supervised practice in assessment, therapeutic models, and interventions across the lifespan and ability range, combined with research methods in Clinical Psychology.
Following qualification I completed training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), which focusses on helping the individual process distressing material from the (distant or near) past that is impacting in the here and now.
I am committed to continuing my professional development, and thus attend various workshops, training events, and other activities to enhance my skills, stay up to date with research developments, and maintain my professional registration.
