About me

Hello. My name is Gemma and I’m a professionally qualified and experienced therapist working with adults in East London.

My approach

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I will offer you a supportive, respectful and creative space to explore who you are in the context of your distinctive personal world.  I know from sitting in the client chair myself that being fully listened to and having one's thoughts, feelings, behaviour and experiences taken seriously can be transformative.

My approach is compassionate and down-to-earth.  Therapy is never easy but by working together we can explore the issues that you are struggling with, and work towards re-connecting you with your feelings, your deepest needs and your desires.

Healing through relationship

At the heart of my practice is the conviction that we can heal through relationships.  I am interested in how past relational and cultural experiences shape our present relationships, self-image and self-beliefs.  The relationship you and I create together can tell us a lot about how you've learnt to relate to others.

The Importance of Grief

Loss, which includes not having certain needs met in childhood, is often at the heart of many psychological struggles.  Together we will explore and grieve the many losses, disappointments and regrets you have experienced, allowing you to transition to a place where you feel more accepting of the wonderful, flawed human that you are.

Training, qualifications & experience

My experience

I have extensive experience in working with a wide variety of emotional difficulties, mental health challenges and relationship issues including:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • grief
  • low self-esteem
  • life changes
  • relationship issues

My training

I hold an MA and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling, from the Minster Centre.  My integrative approach means that I bring together a number of different theories from Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Existential, Attachment, Transactional Analysis and Body Psychotherapy traditions to underpin the unique way that I work.

I am a fully supervised accredited member of UKCP and abide by their code of professional ethics. I am also a member of The Relational School (TRS).

Age-Related Issues

Ageing (at any stage of life) involves loss and the subsequent need to grieve.  I help clients to explore their mixed feelings about life changes and other age-related issues. Particular interests I have are working with pregnant and new mothers, and peri-menopausal and menopausal women.

Human Rights Work

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for a number of humanitarian organisations.  As a therapist, I am interested helping support workers to find balance in their lives and avoid burnout.
